Digital Humanities: Our New Culture

After doing the assigned reading, I learned that Digital Humanities is all around us and with time, it only grows. As stated in A Digital Humanities Manifesto, “knowledge of the Humanities as constituted in the modern university has shaped lives, conveyed critical skills, and provided a moral compass for human experiences, given pleasure and satisfaction, inspired acts of generosity and heroism.” Digital Humanities and how it grows is very amazing. We create the humanities of technology and constantly reform it. Digital Humanities is a constant worry is for the openness of information to the public. If information is imputed and we as the public enforce it, then Digital Humanities will grow and resources about anything can be found on the web. Books and any other types of paper form of information are becoming useless and this may sometimes be quite scary. Our new culture is emerging and books are no longer being used like before. People all around the world are searching and reading from the internet and all the information you can find in books are now on the web. New culture has begun and its technology is only getting better and stronger. Digital Humanities is growing and when looking back to the past, the present and the near future, we will be able to view all the books through their original form, i.e. manuscripts (like the ones we looked at in class.) The original forms of concepts and ideas, notes, and just scribbled writing will be transformed into digital text and the paper form will forever become useless. Digital Humanities is growing as stated in Digital Humanities 2.0 a Report on Knowledge, “Digital Humanities” to be an umbrella term for a wide array of practices for creating, applying, interpreting, interrogating, and hacking both new and old information technologies.” Digital Humanities, from what I have learned is our new culture and generation.
