Honestly, I really have no idea what to do for my final project. I guess I’m still kind of confused about what kinds of things we can do or are supposed to be thinking about doing. The tools we learned about last week are all really cool, but I still don’t really understand what their practical use is or how they could be incorporated into a project. My favorite part of the course was coding webpages. Maybe I could create a digital version of a text or something? But I’m not really sure what the criteria are for this assignment or what kinds of elements have to be incorporated or how large the scope should be…?

OK, coding web pages. This is typically the end result of your research: the dissemination stage. A web page is a form of publication. So you could do an entirely traditional research project and then simply publish the results in HTML. But I think that this would be ignoring the elements of digital textuality that we studied in the first part of the course. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the medium? How can you exploit the fact that HTML is hypertext? What can you do when you abandon traditional layouts of the print form? At this stage, you shouldn’t be thinking about trying to check off elements that have to be incorporated into the project. Indulge your curiosity in thinking about things you might like to explore. I will then help you formulate them into a doable project.
